The heart of this exhibition includes works from Mauro’s acclaimed RAW INSCRIPTION series, which explore the tension between the primitive and the computational. Matteo Mauro’s RAW INSCRIPTIONS and INSCRIPTIONS ON CANVAS, presented at Artissima by Prometeo Gallery di Ida Pisani, embody a dialogue between the primitive and the hyper-contemporary. For this fair, a unique aluminium-inscribed work is exhibited in dialogue with a series of inscribed paintings on canvas, which together mark significant stages in the artist’s exploration. The absence of figuration and the resistance to a fully realised painting allow Mauro to foreground the linear mark, revealing its primordial essence. In these inscriptions, the artist translates an ancestral impulse – that of leaving a mark on a lasting material – through a language that reflects the computational indecipherability of our era.
