Raw Inscription #056

The pieces from the Raw Inscriptions series have remained under the spotlight for a third year in a row, exhibiting across major art fairs such as ArtVerona and Artissima before the year comes to a close. Matteo Mauro has been able to progress his ever growing series to Raw Inscription #059, his inscriptions are based from traditional incisions paired with the unpredictability of computational processes. Articulating the purest form of his artistic research, blending together punctilious engraving techniques in synchrony with generative art’s spontaneous nature.

Throughout the year, Mauro also presented his newest Raw Inscriptions at Fondazione Italo Zetti in Parma as part of the exhibition Tra segno e silenzio, situating his contemporary line based practice in direct dialogue with the foundation’s historic legacy of painting and engraving. This context further reinforced the series’ conceptual foundations and its relationship to the history of mark-making.

Mauro focuses on exploring the digital and physical realities, with his artworks existing somewhere in between a beautiful concept which mirrors the contemporary reality we live in. Matteo Mauro Studio describes the series of works as ‘RAW‘, since they are derived from the Micromegalic Inscriptions language, they are the distilled elemental interpretations of Baroque, Rococo, and French Impressionism depicted through Mauro‘s inscriptions language.

It’s through the unique properties and tactility of the brushed aluminium that the artworks engage with the viewer in an almost hypnotic manner, as each piece stands as a unique creation, distinguished by its individual line work and gesture, undertones, and emotional resonance. Together, they expand and enrich the series’ narrative, exploring new dimensions through varying sizes. The development of Mauro‘s research and the Inscription language has continued this year, growing deeper with numerous new artworks emerging within the studio, with no plans on the horizon to stop…

Matteo Mauro invites art enthusiasts to visit and engage with this evolving series in his Milan studio. As the Raw Inscriptions series continues to evolve, the outcome may change, but the history of the line will continue to be captured throughout all Raw Inscriptions, speaking to the evolution of this language.
