‘Le Salon des Indépendants’ was founded in 1884 by Neo-impressionist painters (such us Cézanne, Gauguin, Pissarro…), whom tired of being refused by the juries of the Official Salon, decided to create their own Salon. The history of this Salon cannot be summed up in a few lines but what must be remembered is the following movements all come from there: Dadaism, Constructivism, Cubism, Fauvism, Realism, Abstraction, Surrealism, Primitivism… Since 1884 the Salon presented (or refused) artists of the caliber of Renoir, Manet, Modigliani, Botero, Duchamp, Munch, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec, Seurat and many others.
It is with great honour that Matteo Mauro’s Towards Mannerism will be exposed at Le Salon des Indépendants at Grand Palais, Paris.
