Matteo Mauro has been working to unveil new additions to the Bronze on Canvas series. He has been immersed in creating a new body of sculptural reliefs that continue to push the boundaries of his signature Inscriptions language. The Bronze on Canvas series continues to deepen Mauro’s exploration of sign making, relief, and gesture. These artworks offer a palpable reading of his sculptural syntax, one that blends the enduring strength of metals with the delicate surface of canvas. The result is a series of paradoxical objects that feel at once ancient and avant-garde.

This latest collection features two unique artworks, represented on canvas through bronze and the other in copper, each offering a distinct exploration of form and materiality. It also introduces a limited twins edition in raw and mirror polished stainless steel, presenting a dual interpretation of the series iconic motifs through striking contrasts in finish and reflection. With a rare limited edition of eight, distinguished by a range of patina coatings that reveal varied tonalities and textures across the metallic surfaces.

The studio has developed a dozen new Bronze and Steel on Canvas artworks, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of this series. These new artworks reflect a continued refinement of Mauro’s sculptural language and showcase a commitment to experimenting with surface, depth, and tactile complexity. Through plasmatic sculpting, Mauro extends the limits of what can be achieved with heavy metals, melting them into forms that express a new alphabet of matter. In a contrasting yet parallel process, he carves into marble, subtracting material to inscribe meaning into stone.

The new pieces will be presented in an upcoming spotlight exhibition dedicated entirely to the Bronze on Canvas series. It promises to be a celebration of material exploration and Mauro’s persistent dialogue between tradition and innovation.
