This October, Matteo Mauro returns to ArtVerona, as the Italian contemporary art fair celebrates its 21st edition under the theme Tra parentesi.

The 2026 edition turns its attention towards what exists between the established actors and structures of the art world. The parenthesis becomes a metaphorical space in which conventional boundaries can temporarily dissolve, allowing artworks, artists, galleries, collectors and audiences to enter into new relationships.

It is an approach that closely resonates with Matteo Mauro’s artistic research, making for a ideal location to show off his most recent Inscriptions on Canvas on Bronze on Canvas.

Throughout his practice, Mauro has explored spaces of transition: between digital and physical processes, traditional craftsmanship and computational technologies, representation and abstraction, and two-dimensional surfaces and sculptural matter.

Rather than treating these categories as opposites, his artworks frequently emerge from their interaction. Digital processes can lead towards highly physical objects; traditional engraving languages are reconsidered through algorithms; metal becomes both surface and image; and historical techniques are translated into contemporary modes of production.

Within the context of Tra parentesi, these relationships take on particular significance. The artwork becomes less an isolated endpoint and more part of an evolving system of materials, ideas, processes and encounters.

ArtVerona 2026 will take place from 9 to 11 October at Veronafiere, under the artistic direction of Laura Lamonea, bringing together galleries and contemporary artistic practices from across Italy and beyond.
