Matteo Mauro‘s Raw Inscriptions have captured the hearts of art enthusiasts with his showcase at ArtVerona 2024. Hosted by Ida Pisani from Prometeo Gallery, Mauro‘s exhibition was a highlight of the event, garnering praise from critics and visitors. ArtVerona served as a perfect showcase for Mauro‘s “Raw Inscriptions” series, a compelling blend of traditional artistry and digital innovation, drawing connections between historical narratives and contemporary techniques.

This series, a continuation of his “Micromegalic” language, utilizes complex algorithms to create intricate patterns that embody conceptual abstractions. Mauro masterfully marries his command of digital methodologies with a profound respect for artistic heritage, facilitating a dialogue between past and future.

Critics have applauded Mauro for his unique ability to further evolve classical art influences through a modern lens. Mauro reflects this sentiment, stating: “I have always tried to combine the strength of artistic tradition with the drive towards digital innovation in my works. I believe that, although the past is important and influences the present, it is always desirable to look to the future, to innovation, to the unexplored, to what is not yet there.“. Raw Inscriptions sparked the attention of notable publications such as The Curious Diaries, VeronaSera, and Experiences.it, serving as a further testament to the significant interest and acclaim his works have garnered. Each piece at the exhibition was more than just a visual spectacle; it was an invitation to perceive the raw, intimate essence of generative art, echoing a primal yet universal impulse to make one’s mark with enduring materials.

As Matteo Mauro continues to push the boundaries of digital and traditional art forms, his participation in ArtVerona is not just a celebration of his current achievements but a promising glimpse into the future of art itself.

Matteo Mauro’s RAW INSCRIPTIONS, presented at ArtVerona in collaboration with Prometeo Gallery by Ida Pisani, embody a dialogue between the primitive and the hyper-contemporary. In particular, the three unique 50 x 50 cm artworks represent significant milestones in the artist’s exploration of his generative language.

Inscribed on brushed aluminium plates, these works reveal the raw, unfinished nature of the series, from which the term “RAW” derives. The absence of lyrical or pictorial embellishments allows Mauro to foreground the linear mark, revealing its pure and primordial essence. In these inscriptions, the artist translates an ancestral impulse – the desire to leave one’s trace on a durable material – through a contemporary language that reflects our computational age.

The works on display, numbered in sequence, do not aim to convey meaning through their titles or achieve a literal aesthetic, but instead participate in an evolving conceptual inquiry. Each piece becomes a trace of this journey, where the artist strips back the work to reveal the bare tension between the prehistoric origin of the gesture and the complexity that shapes it. In this context, Inscription 007, 008, and 010 stand out for their balance between reflection and spontaneity, embodying the very essence of the series.
